Bill Powell

Having first studied the three year Diploma of Fine Arts in 1977, at the University of Southern Queensland in Toowoomba, majoring with Distinction in Ceramics, Bill went on to work as an in demand production wheel thrower with many potteries in and around Southern Queensland. Regularly throwing over 300 kilos of clay a day. All the while building a remarkable skills base.

Well known for his passion for crystalline glazes, Bill is highly accomplished in all aspects of his craft. His graphically textured clay forms are influenced by both the arid landscapes of Australia and the inherent nature of the materials used. His crystalline work is world renowned and his combinations of ceramic and glass are truly unique.

Bill Powell brings a mastery of clay and an attention to detail that overlays into his teaching at CeramX. You’ll enjoy the generous and patient atmosphere Bill brings to all his classes and workshops from his 40+ years working with Clay and Glass.
